I took this picture because the light was slanting across the granite in a way that made the cookies look like little planets on a grid. Then I reached across the camera and took a warm one and ate it over the sink, which is the correct way to eat the first cookie of any batch. Brown sugar gets deeper when it bakes. These smell like a bakery for about ninety minutes after you pull them out. I try to keep the smell by leaving them on the rack longer than I need to.
